NovaPlayer is a free, open-source Android video player designed for local network and cloud streaming. It organizes your media into a Netflix-style interface by automatically scraping movie and TV show details. Here is how to set it up for seamless streaming. 1. Install NovaPlayer
Download: Install NovaPlayer from the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, or F-Droid.
Permissions: Open the app and grant storage permissions so it can scan local files. 2. Connect Your Media Sources
NovaPlayer excels at streaming from external storage. Tap the network icon or go to Network and Files to add your source:
Local Network (Recommended): Select SMB, SFTP, or FTP to connect to your PC, NAS, or router hard drive.
Cloud Storage: Select Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox to stream files stored in the cloud.
Enter Credentials: Type in your network IP address, username, and password to grant access. 3. Index and Scrape Metadata
Once connected, NovaPlayer will automatically scan your folders.
Scraping: It uses TheMovieDB to fetch posters, cast lists, and plot summaries.
Folder Structure: For accurate scraping, name your files clearly (e.g., Movie_Name (Year).mp4 or TV_Show_S01E01.mkv).
Manual Fix: If a poster is wrong, long-press the video, select Change info, and search for the correct title. 4. Optimize for Seamless Playback
Toggle these settings in the preferences menu to ensure stutter-free streaming:
Hardware Decoding: Enable hardware acceleration to let your device’s chip handle heavy 4K or HDR video loads.
Passthrough Audio: Enable audio passthrough (AC3/DTS) if your device is connected to a soundbar or home theater receiver.
Torrents (Optional): NovaPlayer has a built-in BitTorrent client. You can stream directly from torrent files or magnet links without downloading them first. 5. Track Your Progress with Trakt Navigate to Settings > Trakt.
Log into your Trakt account to automatically sync your “watched” status across multiple devices.
